Description
The Paul John Christmas Edition 2025 is the eighth, and oldest to date, release in the annual limited edition series from the Indian distillery. It is an eight-year-old single malt, non-chill-filtered, with no additives, and is bottled at 48% ABV.
Maturation and Profile
The 2025 Christmas Edition is a non-peated malt matured first for five years in ex-bourbon casks, then finished for two years in 250-litre cream sherry casks (a mix of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez), before all components are vatted together for a final year of maturation. This unique process in Goa's tropical climate results in a deep amber spirit with a rich, festive character.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Delicate aromas of orange blossom honey, ripe peaches, a hint of cortado, and spiced nuts. Other reviewers note ripe plum, dark cherry, candied orange peel, and nutmeg.
- Palate: Delightful flavors of apple and stone fruits, laced with crunchy butterscotch, dark caramel, and a light cinnamon. Master of Malt describes notes of roasted nuts and tropical sweetness, enhanced by notes of spiced rum.
- Finish: Long, creamy, and satisfying with sweet oak, molasses, dried red fruits, almonds, hazelnut, and a subtle hint of Christmas cake.
