Ardbeg Anthology The Unicorns Tale Aged 14 Years 70cl 46%
Introducing the second legendary edition in the Ardbeg Anthology Collection: The Unicorn’s Tale. Inspired by the tale of the lesser-spotted Islay Unicorn, this rare Ardbeg is matured for 14 years in a blend of aromatic Madeira and classic bourbon casks. According to the story, distillery workers encountered a horse-like creature with a ‘horn’ one night, leading to rumors of a unicorn sighting. Despite skeptics pointing to Rory, the distillery’s greedy Shetland Pony, the mysterious event remains part of Islay lore. This non-chill filtered whisky, with its sweet yet smoky character, has won a Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2024 and two Gold medals at the International Spirits Challenge and International Wine and Spirits Competition.
Aroma: Rich, sweet, and fruity with baked banana bread and syrupy sponge pudding, followed by treacle and burning cedarwood. A splash of water reveals tropical fruits, eucalyptus oil, and soft, aromatic smoke.
Taste: Zesty lime and sweet peaches lead into rich smoked fruit and baked bread, with notes of antiseptic lozenges, creosote, aniseed, soft barley malt, nutmeg, and peat smoke.
Finish: A whimsically smoky finish with a long and lingering aftertaste of menthol, clove, wood smoke, and camphor, showcasing the influence of Madeira casks.
