Description

Cask Strength Batch 3 is the third in a series of annual limited-edition bottlings.
Each batch will be bottled straight from the casks without water, like trying
samples from the warehouse itself.

For the first time in their Cask Strength Series, have included peated casks. The recipe for this year is 66% first-fill Oloroso Sherry Butts, and 33% ex-Islay Bourbon Barrels. The resulting dram is a beautiful balance between the richness our cask strength releases have become known for, and a surprising yet subtle twist of smoke

Batch 3 of their annual Cask Strength release offers yet another bold and distinctive take on Lochlea. Their Master Blender has carefully selected a combination of 66% first-fill Oloroso Sherry Butts and  33% ex-Islay Bourbon Peated Casks, creating a whisky that balances richness and depth with a surprising twist of smoke. The nose opens with juicy, ripe red fruits, and savoury BBQ smoke.

On the palate, cherries, ripe berries, and dark molasses are lifted by warming ginger cake, toasted rye, and charred wood smoke. The finish is long and complex, with baking spice, salty smoke, and oaky tannins intertwining with delicate floral notes of red roses.

No colouring, non-chill filtered

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Rich and juicy, with lots of ripe red fruits, and a hint of smoky bacon
Palate: Cherries, ripe berries, ginger cake, dark sugar, dark rye & BBQ smoke
Finish: Long & rich, with baking spice, salty smoke, red roses & oaky tannins woven through
